Rationale

In seeking to enhance the skills of participants and their capacity to address key contemporary issues, the rationale for The Cranlana Programme is that there are enduring values which underpin Australian society and that these values have their roots in the heritage of great writings from both Western and Eastern traditions.

The Cranlana Programme provides people with senior responsibility the opportunity to revisit the vision and perspective of great thinkers to help them in developing their own decision-making roles.

Background

The Cranlana Programme draws its inspiration from The Aspen Institute in the U.S.A. The Aspen Institute was established over fifty years ago to provide a forum at which business, government and community leaders could come together to reflect on the underlying values of contemporary society and continue the liberal tradition of education.

In 1992 The Myer Foundation decided to establish a similar centre in Australia. The Programme commenced operations in 1993 and its alumni now number over 1500. It continues to enjoy strong support from The Myer Foundation. Sir Ninian Stephen is Patron of The Cranlana Programme.
