Knowledge, Power and Justice

The Alfred Deakin Innovation Lectures 2005

Over seventy university students drawn from 6 Victorian Universities participated in 4 Symposia examining the topic Knowledge, Power and Justice.  These discussions were held at Melbourne Town Hall on May 2nd and 6th 2005 as complementary events to the Alfred Deakin Innovation Lectures.

Symposium discussions focussed on the relationship between prosperity, freedom and justice in contemporary society and the complex ethical dilemmas raised by knowledge, power and self-interest.

Each Symposium included a presentation by a Lecturer from the Alfred Deakin series.  We were delighted to welcome in this regard:

The Cranlana Programme offered a further symposium for university students in September 2005.  A number of university students from the Alfred Deakin Innovation Lecture group reconvened for discussions on the topic Dirty Hands - Political Action & Moral Responsibility at Melbourne Town Hall.

Readings and discussion during the symposium focused on the values that underpin and inform our actions as well as an exploration of the philosophical and practical dimensions of leadership.
